Job Description:

Docomomo US, the nations only non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of modern architecture, is looking for a full-time Program and Communications Manager in its New York City office. The Docomomo US Program and Communications Manager is responsible for implementing and managing all Docomomo US programs including but not limited to the National Symposium, Modernism in America Awards and Tour Day in addition to lectures, film screenings and tours that take place from time to time throughout the year. The Program and Communications Manager acts as the project manager for these events and coordinates all aspects of schedule management, budgeting, logistics, partner and volunteer coordination. The Program Manager is responsible for implementing a wide range of communication efforts for the Docomomo US website, monthly newsletter, email and print communications and social media.



The Program and Communications Manager must have at least 3 years professional experience in program administration, non-profit administration and program management. Candidates must have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Adobe Design Suite and database software. The Program and Communications Manager must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, social media savvy, the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, high attention to detail and the ability to work independently. A minimum bachelors degree in historic preservation, art history, or related degree is required. Candidates with historic preservation knowledge and a love for modernism are preferred. Some travel is required.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties of the Program and Communications Manager include but are not necessarily limited to the following:


·       Manage all aspects related to the annual National Symposium, coordinate with a national committee, local hosts and provide monthly project reports

·       Work with the Symposium Organizing Committee of the Board of Directors to strategize and implement future events

·       Manage the annual Docomomo US Tour Day event including partner outreach, thematic development, web and social media updates

·       Manage the annual Modernism in America Awards including scheduling, jury management, nominee and press communication, budgeting and event management

·       Coordinate programming and events throughout the year as it relates to current objectives and themes


·       Develop and produce the twice-monthly electronic newsletter including thematic editions, featured stories, chapter updates, advocacy issues and recent news

·       Develop and produce all program graphics, website layouts, email communications and print materials

·       Manage relationships with print vendor and all printing jobs

·       Draft press releases for all programming

·       Communicate and coordinate with national and local press contacts


·       Provide administrative support for board and chapter meetings

·       Engage and communicate with board, chapters, members and the larger preservation community

·       Answer phone calls and respond to emails that come to a general inbox
