Senior Archaeologist

Duties involve planning, supervising, and conducting in-house archaeological surveys, and managing and reviewing the work of consultant archaeologists for compliance under federal and state laws and regulations. The archaeologist will prepare archaeological assessments, develop scopes of work at the survey, testing, and data recovery levels, and prepare, review and approve proposals. The projects will also include architectural history reviews that will need to be coordinated closely with the SHA architectural historians.

Required qualifications for this position include: Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation history or related field; 2 years of which must have included responsibility managing archaeology projects and supervising professional and technical staff. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points. 

Preferred qualifications include: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in anthropology, archaeology, history or related field, over 3 years of experience supervising Phase I and Phase II surveys, and managing budgets. Experience in Maryland archaeology and architectural history is desired as well.
