The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a graduate student in Historic Preservation or closely related field to intern with the Towns Planning Department.  The Town of Wake Forest is located north of Raleigh, North Carolina and is home to one locally designated historic district, three National Register Historic Districts, eight locally designated historic landmarks, and eleven buildings individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The Senior Planner for Historic Preservation is seeking an intern to assist with multiple projects including assessment of the existing boundaries and periods of significance for National Register districts, identification and documentation of buildings and districts eligible for listing in the National Register, finalizing the historic district design guidelines update, assisting with regular Historic Preservation Commission business, and assisting with planning activities for special events  These projects will provide an opportunity for independent and team oriented work in an office staffed by seasoned professionals.  For more information about historic preservation in Wake Forest visit the website at http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/historic-preservation.aspx


In addition to a project focus, the intern can expect to:


  1. Become familiar with the goals, duties, and responsibilities of the Wake Forest Historic Preservation Commission and the daily duties of the Historic Preservation Planner and Planning Office.

  2. Attend public and committee meetings of the Historic Preservation Commission during the internship period.

  3. Prepare a staff report with recommendations, for a proposed project requiring Historic Preservation Commission review.

  4. Prepare for and attend all other public meetings related to in-house projects during the internship period.

  5. Perform administrative office duties. 




The internship pays $12 per hour for 40 hours per week (preferred) for a minimum of three weeks beginning as early as June 1, 2017.  The hours per week and number of weeks is negotiable.  The period can be tailored to meet the college or universitys internship requirements. Please note that this position is not eligible for Town of Wake Forest employee benefits.
