SWCA Environmental Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a Architectural Historian†Team Lead/Senior Project Manager for our California and Pacific Islands offices.

The Architectural History Team Lead for these 6 offices will be a core member of the California and Pacific Islands Regions Cultural Resources Program, and will be responsible for finding and winning work, managing large projects, mentoring and managing staff, growing the team throughout the region, and upholding our companys standards of excellence. The selected candidate will report to the Cultural Resources Director. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position located in our Pasadena office.†

A Masters Degree in architectural history, historic preservation, or a closely related field required.

  • Meets Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualifications Standards in Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61)
  • A working knowledge of federal and state cultural resource and historic preservation laws and practices, including NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and CEQA.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience conducting research, writing, and consulting in American architectural history with a consulting firm, agency, or other professional organization; preferred experience includes working on a variety of project types and sizes, on all project aspects (from pre-field tasks through final report preparation), in multiple regions, and with a variety of regulatory agencies.
  • Experience recording and evaluating architectural resources on California DPR 523 forms.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports in a timely fashion.Primary report authorship in a CRM context and experience providing quality control review of field documents, site forms and reports required.
  • Knowledge of the history and architectural history of California is required; knowledge of the history and architectural history of Hawaii is desired.
  • Experience conducting architectural history work in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Los Angeles area strongly desired.
  • Experience with application of The Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation (36 CFR Part 67) and Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation and procedures are preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in CRM or historic preservation†in a staff supervisory capacity
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing CRM or historic preservation†projects, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work
  • A track record of business development including client development, marketing, and proposal preparation
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to changes in project needs, agency requests, etc. and be able to work independently and collaborate with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives.††
