Position Summary


We are seeking a full time Architectural Historian/Historic Preservation Specialist  to work as part of a team of cultural resources specialists (i.e., architectural historians, archaeologists, paleontologists, and historic preservation professionals) to prepare historic resource evaluations and related technical documents in compliance with CEQA, NEPA and Section 106 of NHPA. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate at least 3 years professional experience evaluating historical resources in consideration of NRHP, CRHR, and local level designation criteria and integrity requirements; researching and writing historic context statements; assessing impacts/effects to historical resources/historic properties; and will have a working knowledge of the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.




  • Masters degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a consultant in the discipline of architectural history/historic preservation
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards for architectural history


  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong writing and research skills (writing samples required)

  • Professional References

  • References and 1 or more writing samples should be submitted with resume



Desired Qualifications


  • Experience in preparing technical reports for projects that fall under the jurisdiction of CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA
  • Experience researching and developing historic context statements
  • Experience evaluating properties in accordance with local, state and national criteria and integrity requirements on State of California DPR forms
  • Experience conducting building permit research at local government offices
  • Experience conducting CHRIS records searches
  • Solid understanding of the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Ability to travel for field work
  • Experience preparing scopes of work and budgets for proposal efforts
  • Experience working as part of a team of cultural resources professionals
