U.S. Public Interest Research Group

U.S. PIRG is a consumer group that stands up to powerful interests whenever they threaten our health and safety, our financial security, or our right to fully participate in our democratic society. For decades, we’ve stood up for consumers, countering the influence of big banks, insurers, chemical manufacturers and other powerful special interests.

Internship Opportunity
Ithaca, NY

We're hiring interns to work remotely from campus to support PIRG's public interest campaigns.  Interns have the potential to work on a variety of PIRG issue areas including higher education, public health, and democracy related issue campaigns like getting big money out of politics.  Though responsibilities vary, most internships include:

  • Conducting research into public policy problems and preparing investigative reports;
  • Coordinating media events, assisting in the preparation of news releases and statements;
  • Working with coalition partners and PIRG offices to coordinate grassroots activities;
  • Monitoring the progress of legislation in Congress and the actions of federal agencies.

We're looking for smart, driven candidates with leadership experience, top-notch written and verbal skills, and an eagerness to learn. We especially look for candidates who are willing to take the initiative, and who have a background in organizing on campus.  Some internships will focus on digital organizing and graphic design for our campaigns, but not all.
We expect a time commitment of 10-15 hrs a week, and are flexible on scheduling.
