Indiana Landmarks is seeking candidates for the position of Community Preservation Specialist for its Central Regional Office (CRO).  Indiana Landmarks provides a full range of services to owners of historic buildings, non-profit organizations and others interested in preserving the states architectural and cultural heritage

 

Responsibilities:              

 

  • Provide a wide range of preservation services for a 12-county region of central Indiana.

  • Represent the organization in the field and assist with advocacy efforts to save endangered landmarks in the region.

  • Work with private individuals as well as community groups and local government agencies on preservation issues and projects.

  • Perform professional staff duties for historic preservation commissions with which the CRO has a contractual relationship.  Duties include advocacy for local historic district designation, design review for C.O.A. applications, grant writing and administration, coordinating CLG status.

  • Establish new preservation organizations and support and strengthen existing organizations within the region.

  • Assist the Regional Director with the coordination and management of preservation projects undertaken by the CRO. 

  • Plan and coordinate various regional educational programs and organizational events

Knowledge of historic preservation principles and programs.  Bachelors degree in historic preservation or a degree in a closely related discipline with professional preservation experience required.  Masters degree in historic preservation preferred.  Excellent organizational and communication skills, leadership qualities and the ability to engage with the public including regular public speaking are required.  Strong writing skills and computer capabilities are desired.
