The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation (VDHP) is seeking a temporary employee for 25 hours a week for a 40 week (10 month) period to assist the State Archaeologist in establishing a curation space for the western Vermont State Historic Sites at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell. The employee will help to centralize, organize, inventory, and begin to catalog and curate collections formerly housed separately at the state-owned sites. A secondary objective during this process will be to identify materials and archives that may be used in future exhibits, presentations, and/or interpretations of the state-owned sites. The employee will also spend approximately two days a week at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison assisting the western Sites Administrator and the Historic Sites Section Chief with the expansion of interpretation and exhibits, and in providing minor maintenance support. The temporary employee will be under the State Archaeologists overall supervision. Direction will also come from the Historic Sites Section Chief. Housing is provided rent/utility free at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison. The applicant must be able to live in the apartment during the period of employment. Work spaces and the employees living space are located on the second floors of buildings at the state-owned sites; there are no elevators at these locations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Undergraduate student or graduate experienced in Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, or other related field.

Graduate student (MA) or graduate experienced in Anthropology, Archaeology, Public History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, or other related field.

Knowledge and experience with archaeology or museum collections management helpful.

Experience with Microsoft Access® helpful.

Experience with Microsoft Excel® helpful.

Experience with PastPerfect® helpful.
