The Maryland State Highway Administration seeks to fill an architectural historian position through our agreement with the Maryland Environmental Service. The position is permanent with benefits.

Duties involve planning, supervising, and conducting in-house surveys for historic structures, buildings, and bridges, as well as managing and reviewing the work of consultant architectural historians for our compliance under federal and state laws and regulations. The Architectural Historian (ESIII) will prepare cultural resources assessments for SHA projects, develop scopes of work for surveys, prepare requests for proposals, review and approve proposals. Attending and presenting at conferences is encouraged.


Masters Degree in Architectural History or related field, 2 years of experience in cultural resources management, and experience in MD Architectural History and transportation agency experience a plus!
