Architectural Historian
Professional Opportunity

Cardno is an ASX-200 professional infrastructure and environmental services company, with expertise in the development and improvement of physical and social infrastructure for communities around the world.

Cardno is seeking an Architectural Historian in our Sacramento, CA office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Inventory and evaluation of built environment resources under the criteria of the NRHP and CRHR
- Section 106 Documentation and Analysis
- CEQA level impact studies
- Intensive and reconnaissance level field work across California and the West
- Preparation of technical documents including but not limited to Section 106 and CEQA Analysis documents and associated DPR 523 Records
- Secondary and archival research at repositories across California
- Record searches and coordination with OHP Information Centers
- Database and information management
- Ongoing written and verbal coordination and consulting with team members and clients
- Assistance with marketing, proposals, and business development
- Administrative office assistance including document production and transmittal


Basic Requirements:

- Candidate must have graduate degree in historic preservation, public history, or cultural resource planning
- Candidate must have 2-5 years full-time professional experience in cultural resources management field in CA
- Candidate must qualify as Architectural Historian / Historian under the SOI Professional Qualification Standards
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and basic database management, knowledge of GIS a plus
- Ability to travel frequently to field sites and other Cardno office locations on the West Coast
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
- Position requires intensive use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Photoshop. Database proficiency and GIS skills desired
- Technical document requirements include assistance with and/or authorship of Section 106 and CEQA documents including HRER, PA, MOA/U, FOE, DPR 523, and mitigation documents including HABS/HAER/HALS and NRHP Nominations

Desired Qualifications:

- Significant experience working on utilities/energy-related projects
- Significant experience leading site recordation in a diverse array of settings, including but not limited to rural and urban roadside survey, agricultural areas, canals and linear alignments, military, industrial, and utility settings
- Professional competency in assessment of cultural landscapes
- Experience working with and assisting archaeological staff
- Experience in assisting with scoping and bidding efforts
- Ability to develop and follow through with client outreach and marketing efforts
