The City of Newton is seeking a qualified, motivated and energetic candidate for the position of Main Street Manager for the Downtown Newton Development Agency (DNDA). This position will directly oversee the citys designated North Carolina Main Street program and will provide expertise in downtown development and redevelopment using the Main Street Four-Point approach. The manager requires working with the DNDA Board and Committees, downtown property and business owners, citizens as well as assisting various City departments in downtown projects and events. The ideal candidate is one that enjoys being intricately involved in the downtown revitalization of the City, establishes broad-brush support for the DNDA program, a proven track record of community oriented projects and partnerships both internally and with the community to ensure that a common vision is enacted and supported.
Considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices in one or more of the following areas: Architecture, Historic Preservation, Economics, Design, Planning, or non-profit administration/ and or small business development. The program manager must be sensitive to design and preservation issues and understand the issues confronting downtown business people, property owners, public agencies and community organizations. The manager must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, business administration or related field and considerable experience in planning, commercial or economic development.
