Job Description

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an Architectural Historian within our Cultural Resources program to support our four California offices. An Architectural Historian is a core member of the statewide Cultural Resources program. Work will occur throughout California, but the position will be based out of our Half Moon Bay office. This is a regular, salaried position that requires California cultural resources experience.

                                                                                               

When project travel is required, per diem, hotel room accommodations, and field vehicles are provided.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Project implementation to include fieldwork, historic research, report writing, and QA/QC review
  • Prepare historic documentation, including California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) 523 Series forms
  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Contribute to marketing and proposal efforts
  • Collaborate with SWCAs managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical and business development efforts throughout California
  • Maintain SWCAs high standard of professional ethics and quality assurance, and is motivated to identify and resolve problems in creative ways
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and agencies
  • Attend and/or present at local, regional, and national conferences and forums
  • Take initiative, resolves problems, and ensures that tasks are completed
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures, and ability to try new, improved techniques.
  • Work as a team member and independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualifications Standards in architectural history
  • Bachelors degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related field; a graduate field in these fields is preferred
  • At least (2) two years of full-time experience in research, writing, and consulting in American architectural history with a consulting firm, agency, or other professional organization
  • Experience preparing California DPR forms and conducting historic research and surveys
  • Familiarity with cultural resource laws, including NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and CEQA
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
