HISTORIC PRESERVATION SPECIALIST

Salary: Hourly wage dependent on qualifications
Variable hours averaging 8-15 hours per week
Under immediate direction, provides staff support for the Historic Preservation Commission. Works on a wide variety of historic preservation projects. Assists owners of historic buildings with renovation plans and drawings. Presents written and oral reports and recommendations to the Historic Preservation Commission. Provides information and advice about the historic preservation guidelines and the historic review process via appointments, phone calls and walk-ins. Researches building products to verify that they meet historic preservation standards. Assists a committee of the Commission in producing an annual awards program at which outstanding historic preservation projects are recognized. Assists the Historic Preservation Commission in the identification and designation of Conservation Districts, Historic Districts and Local Landmarks as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Bachelors degree in Architecture, Planning or a related field from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body required. Considerable experience in evaluation and/or implementing historic preservation projects required. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Must pass criminal background check.
