The Operations Manager position is responsible for and oversees all functions of HistoriCorps field operations. This individual will plan, manage, and report on multiple concurrent construction projects. The Operations Manager facilitates all aspects of HistoriCorps projects that involve the maintenance, repair and preservation of historic structures. The Operations Manager will at times fill in or lead preservation projects.
The Operations Manager is responsible for: preparing estimates and proposals; scheduling traveling teams and jobs; planning job logistics; hiring, training and supervising field staff; ordering, procuring and ensuring delivery of materials to sites; tracking jobs and drafting and submitting job reports in close collaboration with finance manager; maintaining and repairing vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment; supporting field staff. This individual collaborates with the Management Team1 to match the appropriate work force with projects, e.g., volunteers, corps members, students, veterans, Passport in Time volunteers (PIT) or a combination of the foregoing.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. The overall construction and project management functions of HistoriCorps:
a. Work with Project Development staff and project sponsors to create a volunteer-, student-, veteran-, and/or youth- appropriate scope of work and corresponding budget for projects. This relationship will continue through project execution and successful completion;
b. Make site visits when necessary to gather the information required to estimate project costs and mount proposals;
c. Develop estimates and proposals in collaboration with Project Development and Executive Director;
d. When 3rd party contractors are utilized, manage communications and scheduling;
e. Ensure that all construction operations on each project site comply with the applicable Safety Manuals and HistoriCorps and Sponsors job site safety programs and policies. Foster a safe work environment for field staff and volunteers through training and protocols;
f. Material ordering, procurement, and delivery to project sites;
g. Projects and Field Crew scheduling and travel logistics in collaboration with Management Team, including specific instruction as to proper allocation of crew lodging, per diem, and travel costs.
h. Projects progress and expense tracking and invoicing in collaboration with Business Manager and Executive Director;
i. Support Project Supervisors and Crew Leaders;
j. Enforce organization policies regarding field staff conduct, field reporting, and accountability to home office;
k. Trouble Shooting and client relations during project execution;
2. Develop inventory system and database for tools and equipment and keep up-to-date;
3. Prepare vehicles and trailers, tools and equipment, and camp kitchen inventory for seasonal deployment;
