General Description

 

 

 

The Archeologist I position provides support to the Osage Tribal Historic Preservation Director in the identification, preservation, and protection of Osage cultural resources.   He/She performs work assigned by the Director to fulfill the Osage Nation Historic Preservation Office objectives.

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

  • Masters degree from an accredited university in Anthropology with a specialization in Archaeology required

  • Must have completed an archaeology field school

  • Must have 2 years experience with archaeological field work, geographic information systems, Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and/or tribal-federal historic compliance review work

  • Preferred experience in tribally sensitive archaeological methods, nominating properties to the National Register, familiarity with native customs and traditions-Osage preferred

  • Must have experience in the production  of CRM/archaeology reports from background research to final manuscripts

  • Experience working with tribal communities preferred

  • Must be able to conduct field work in all types of weather conditions

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, kneel, bend at the waist and reach above the shoulders

  • Have the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. and endure strenuous exertion

  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics

  • Requires a high level of problem solving skills

  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions

  • Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs

  • Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills

  • Requires a high level of discretion and confidentiality

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and be bondable

  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing

  • Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicles
