Urbana Preservation & Planning, LLC (Urbana) is seeking a project Architectural Historian to assist in field surveys of communications sites throughout Los Angeles County for a two-month timeframe. The project duration is anticipated for September 2014 thru October 2014.
The Architectural Historian must meet the Secretary of the Interior's professional qualifications standards in the discipline of Architectural History as described here.
"The minimum professional qualifications in architectural history are a graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history, OR a bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation or closely related field plus one of the following:
1. At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or
2. Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history."
The Architectural Historian will work alongside a project Archaeologist to visit, observe, photograph, and input data on the sites using electronic tablets. Equipment and training will be provided. Determinations will be made in the field regarding the historic property status of buildings and structures at each site and within a defined APE
The Architectural Historian will be identified as a temporary and short term employee subject to payroll and taxes as mandated by the California Franchise Tax Board and the IRS.
The position may lead to additional projects or a permanent position within the company.
