French Quarter Citizens, Inc. seeks to hire its first Executive Director to manage its operations. He or she will oversee all aspects of the organization and report to the board of directors. FQC has been an all volunteer advocacy organization for 20 years and our mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of life for residents of the French Quarter (the Vieux Carré) and protect the architectural and historic integrity of the Vieux Carré, one of the most intact historic neighborhoods in the United States. The majority of FQC's efforts could be considered advocacy and community organizing related and contemporary preservation is about far more than the physical preservation of buildings so the applicant for the position must be dynamic with the ability to deal with matters including land use, zoning, urban planning, fundraising, event planning, grant writing, membership development and retention, public speaking, law, and administration.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL INCLUDE:

 

o Provide office management and organizational support including developing and maintaining computerized information systems

 

o In partnership with the board, develop policy and strategy on general and specific advocacy issues and implement programs that fulfill FQCs mission, raise the profile of the organization, and generate income

 

o Communicate with membership and the public by maintaining the organizations website and social media, issuing membership alerts and news announcements and developing outreach programs to generate community support for issues

 

o Build  productive relationships with other area preservation organizations, governmental agencies and various other French Quarter stakeholders and attend relevant meetings to speak on FQC's behalf

 

o Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including grant writing and event planning

 

o Recruit, motivate, train and retain volunteers and assist committee volunteers with implementation of work plan items

 

o Work with Treasurer and Board members to develop annual operating budget

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

o Attend all board meetings and attend committee meetings as needed

 

o Assist with events, i.e. Quarterly Membership meetings and annual fundraiser

 

o Assist Membership Chair in coordinate membership lists, recruitment and retention

 

o Monitor all municipal meetings with possible impacts on the Vieux Carré as required

 

o Provide other services as may be assigned by the Board of Directors

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

o Minimum two years of relevant experience in historic preservation, urban planning, community organizing/advocacy or related field

 

o Non-profit management experience preferred

 

o Knowledge of historic preservation programs and strategies

 

o Ability to work effectively with volunteer boards and committees

 

o Ability to set priorities and multi-task

 

o Strong computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets, power point, adobe or equivalent, mailing list and membership programs, and social networking sites.

 

o Excellent written and oral skills, including facilitation and presentation

 

o Ability to work a flexible schedule due to some evening/weekend meetings

 

o Grant-writing experience preferred

o Assumes responsibility with enthusiasm and follows through on commitments
