The primary responsibilities of the position are to conduct historical research and field survey to identify and evaluate historic aboveground resources in support of CRM compliance projects. The Architectural Historian will manage the technical aspects of research, fieldwork, synthesis, and product production within project-specific research designs and frameworks. PALs Architectural Historian will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions and contribute to PALs outstanding reputation for providing our clients with high-quality CRM services.

Qualified candidates must possess a graduate degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, or a closely related field and at least three (3) years experience in the field of CRM; or a BA with at least five (5) years of strong CRM experience. Additional requirements include:

outstanding historical research, digital photography, historic architecture and landscape identification, and technical writing skills

demonstrated comprehension and experience applying Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other laws and regulations relating to cultural resources management (CRM) and historic preservation planning (HPP)

the ability to produce technical written materials that meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and other federal and state review agency standards and guidelines

the ability to lead projects and supervise staff as well as contribute effectively as team member

schedule flexibility, including overnight travel with trips of varying lengths
