Star Island, New Englandís most unique summer island, has been host to summer gatherings for over 100 years, and was home to a thriving fishing village before that. History is alive on Star Island as guests stay in original structures dating back to the time of the grand hotel era and beyond. Star Island currently focuses on family, adult and youth oriented week-long retreats during the summer.

Duties include:†

  • Staffing musuem during open hours by greeting guests, answering questions, maintaining security of items, and providing customer service.
  • Faciliting educational programming for youth groups (ages preschool through high school).
  • Lead historical tours of Star Island (tour themes are general island history and ghosts & graveyards).
  • Lead historical tours of Appledore Island.
  • Provide support to Curator through cataloging and upgrading to digital records.
  • Special projects as assigned by Curator.
This internship is unpaid and includes room and board while on island in dormitory style housing. Island residency is required 5-6 days per week with a specific schedule coordinated with the Curator.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift upt o 50 lbs.
  • Requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, lifting, climbing stairs, and transporting equipment; working at a computer; must be physically and mentally capable of functioning in a fast-paced work environment in a community setting.
  • Must be able to walk around island with uneven and rocky terrain.
Qualifications
  • Experience with teachign and leading tours.
  • Currently enrolled in museum studies or library science program at an accredited university or college.
