Tourism Cares

THE ORGANIZATION AND OPPORTUNITY Tourism Cares (TC), a nonprofit headquartered in Canton, Mass., consolidates and leverages the philanthropy of the travel industry to preserve the travel experience for future generations. With the impending retirement of its long-time executive director, TC is at an important juncture in its organizational history and is seeking a creative, energetic, seasoned leader who will shepherd the organization through its next stage of evolution. Although started in 1996, TC’s current incarnation is the result of mergers in 2005 with two travel industry philanthropic initiatives, the National Tourism Foundation, founded by the National Tour Association in 1982, and the Travelers Conservation Foundation, founded in 1999 by the United States Tour Operators Association. TC has a budget of $2.3 million and a staff of eight. The organization is governed by a dedicated and diverse 17-member national board of directors, primarily comprised of travel industry executives. Collectively, the strong, collaborative and highly experienced team at TC marshals the resources and energy of the travel industry and the traveling public to save sites that are important to travelers through the following programs and services: • Preservation Projects • Preservation Grants • Student Programs

PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Maintaining the strength and effectiveness of TCs programs and services; respectfully, transparently and effectively leading TCs board and staff; and managing important relationships with funders, partners, volunteers and other stakeholders are clear priorities for a new executive director. Challenges and opportunities for TCs new executive director will include:

 

  • Streamline and focus TCs mission to maximize impact and increase engagement
  • Strike balance between strategic growth, institutional health and sustainability 
  • Maintain key relationships of TCs key supporters 
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan 
  • Maintain a robust corporate giving program and expand other revenue streams
  • Determine and implement appropriate staffing and infrastructure 
  • Develop strong, respectful and collaborative relationships with TCs staff 
  • Establish strong, mutually supportive relationships with the TC board 
  • Examine and implement opportunities for technology enhancements

This is a full time position.  Although Canton, Mass. will remain the primary location for Tourism Cares, there is flexibility to consider a partial remote work schedule.  This position requires frequent travel.
