ERM is seeking a Junior Archaeologist/Heritage Consultant to join our global consulting firm as part of our cultural resources team based in Houston, TX. Experience in aboriginal archaeology and/or historical archaeology is preferred, as your role will include assisting with archaeological excavations and survey work. Important to the role will be a willingness to learn new skills including field practices, report preparation, consultation and develop an understanding of multi-disciplinary practices such as environmental planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research at various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) and related facilities.
  • Perform Area of Potential Effect (APE) structure surveys.
  • Compile Phase I archaeological testing and report on results.
  • Prepare submittals for SHPO review.
  • Arrange local and Tribal consultations.
  • Implement and manage Phase I Environmental Site Assessments per ASTM Standard.
  • Collect field data for natural resources compliance submittals.
  • Develop NEPA-type documents for federal and/or state agencies, and/or providing strategic-level Impact Assessment and Planning (IAP) support.
  • Track progress of numerous oil/gas and energy projects through the entire compliance process.
  • Provide additional information as requested by SHPO, Tribes, local government, and members of the public.
  • Respond to public comments.

REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field plus.

1 to 5 years of professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research and/or cultural resources management.

Meet the Secretary of Interior's Standards to perform duties for Section 106 and NEPA compliance, pertaining especially to oil/gas and energy related undertakings.

6 months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology.

6 months of Southwestern and/or Southeastern archaeological experience.

Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.

Demonstrated report writing abilities writing samples will be required.

Extensive travel required.
