The Department of Planning, Development and Preservation is a dynamic and uniquely interdisciplinary Department in a highly diverse College. With three professional masterís degree programs, the Department offers a Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) on the main campus; a Master of Science in Historic Preservation in Charleston (MSHP, a joint program with the College of Charleston); and a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED, a joint program with the College of Business and Behavioral Science), to be relocated to Downtown Greenville in Fall 2013, thirty miles from the main campus. The MSHP and MRED programs are each self-financed through a differential tuition, while the MCRP program is a typical academic unit with campus-related tuition and assistantships. Each Program has a Director and faculty with responsibility for their curriculum, as well as other operational details based on their funding sources. Each two-year Masterís program typically admits between 15-20 students annually. Faculty also participate in the multidisciplinary Ph.D. in Planning, Design & the Built Environment (PDBE), administered by the Deanís office. The Department Chair oversees The Richard H. Pennell Center for Real Estate Development (CRED), primarily an applied research center within the Department, administered by a director. The Department has direct links to both the national leadership and South Carolina chapters of APA, ULI, SIOR, CCIM, and other professional organizations providing a rich access to practitioners. Faculty are maintaining nationally-recognized research agendas and have conducted award-winning projects. Clemson University is a Top 25 public research university. Clemson University, the land grant institution of South Carolina, is located mid way between Atlanta and Charlotte in the 1.3 million-person Greenville Spartanburg metro area. The historic community of Charleston and two nationally prominent tourist destinations -- Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beachóare located in South Carolina. Recreational opportunities in mountainous, freshwater, and coastal environments are plentiful and easily accessible from the University, which is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and on the shore of Lake Hartwell.

The Clemson University Department of Planning, Development and Preservation seeks a Departmental Chair at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to begin August 2013. Candidates should be senior scholars with a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree and professional certification credentials, as well as a record of distinguished teaching, research/practice, and/or public service. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and experience in academic strategic planning; fiscal and personnel management; consensus building; external funding and sponsored projects; communication with leaders in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors; capital and departmental fundraising; and alumni relations. Chairs are expected to continue limited teaching, research/practice, and public service.
