Wabash Marketplace, Inc. (WMI) is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, energetic and creative person to serve as a full-time executive director of Wabash Marketplace, Inc., Wabashs Main Street Program. The successful candidate will be the lead person in assisting with the development and revitalization efforts in the WMI Main Street District using the strategic areas of Organization, Design, Promotions, and Economic Restructuring as its fundamental operational framework.
Millions of dollars have been invested in and around the Downtown Wabash area in the last ten years featuring new and renovated buildings, streetscapes, the YMCA, the Charley Creek Inn, and the Eagles Theater, just to name a few.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
· Central coordinator of the Main Street programs activities.
· Oversees daily operations, providing the hands-on involvement critical to a successful program.
· Provides a communication link between WMIs committees, ensuring that activities are synchronized with our operational approach.
· Coordinates a wide range of projects, from supervising promotional activities to assembling market information.
· Full-time advocate for the downtown.
· Authority on information, resources and programs related to the revitalization effort.
· Familiarizing public officials, retailers, community groups, the general public and others with the nature and orientation of this effort.
· Implementing local objectives through the development of revitalization tools, such as rehabilitation programs; existing state and federal funding sources and grant opportunities, administrative procedures; political mechanisms; and legal processes, as appropriate.
· Assisting individual merchants and property owners with design and construction of physical restoration projects.
· Development, monitor and assess economic strategies to increase retailing in the downtown, attracting new users into existing facilities and expanding market opportunities.
· Preparing and maintaining a continuing record of WMI activities.
· Acting as a data and information source for central business district interests as well as for others in the community.
· Developing and maintaining contacts with media sources to disseminate project information to the community.
· Recruiting, directing and rewarding volunteers.
· Other duties as directed by the President and the Board of Directors of WMI.
RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION This position requires a Bachelors degree in Historic Preservation, Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban Planning or related field.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE This position requires a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training in historic preservation, economic development, downtown development, or industrial and commercial real estate development.
Strong written, oral, and organizational skills are required and include external communications which include, but are not limited to, newsletters, press releases, web copy, grant applications, etc.
High level of technical ability with strong working knowledge of computer software programs such as desktop publishing, graphic design, website administration, and Microsoft office suite.
Ability to manage websites and social media content such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and Blogs.
Experience with event planning and organizational/membership/community meetings.
Experience with non-profit fundraising including corporate membership campaigns, sponsor solicitations, institutional supporters, and individual donors.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local economic development tools available for downtown development (i.e. renaissance zones, brownfields, tax increment financing, historic tax credits)
Experience working with and recruiting volunteers is a plus, as is familiarity with the National Trust for Historic Preservations Main Street model.
SUPERVISIOR RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for managing interns and numerous volunteer groups and committees.
