The incumbent serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist in support of the Regional Environmental Officer (EPO) and is located in the Mitigation Division, Region I, Boston Ma, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security and falls under the administrative supervision of the Mitigation Director. The duties for this position include responsibility for providing comprehensive regulatory, policy, guidance, scoping, assessment, planning, training and technical assistance for Agency programs and activities to comply with relevant environmental & historic preservation (EHP) laws, executive orders and regulations.

  •  Knowledge of Federal environmental and historic Preservation laws, implementing regulations and Executive Orders in a Federal, state and local context and how they apply to the compliance and implementation of Federally-funded actions.
  • Identify and assist in developing ways to resolve problems or cope with EHP issues which directly affect the accomplishment of principal program goals and objectives.
  • Develop EHP compliance guidance to be used for implementing criteria and evaluating programs, and for monitoring and reviewing program performance and progress of FEMA grant programs. 
  • Implement operations and EHP compliance streamlining processes particularly for delivery of eligible assistance through the Public Assistance and Mitigation Grant programs.
  • Plan and prepare reports or other working documents related to complex program issues and EHP technical matters.
  • Interact with Federal, state and local officials, and/or community leaders on a variety of issues related to EHP compliance and FEMA grant programs.
