The History Program of the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is charged with documenting and analyzing the evolution of its properties and administrative history. NCA oversees 131 national cemeteries and 33 soldiers’ lots, of which more than half date to the Civil War.

The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) offers unique career exploration opportunities in historic preservation/cultural resources work for undergraduate and graduate students of diverse backgrounds.  The program places interns with National Park Service (NPS) park units and administrative offices, other federal agencies, state historic preservation offices, local governments, and private organizations.  Intern sponsors provide work experiences that assist interns with building their resumes in this field.    The CRDIP is part of a comprehensive effort to diversify the historic preservation/cultural resources field.The CRDIP is funded by the National Center for Cultural Resources, National Park Service and the host agency. It is administered in partnership with the Student Conservation Association (SCA).



10 weeks of housing may be available.  If housing is not provided a 3-month housing stipend of up to $800.00/month will be available.

How to apply
Students currently enrolled in a college or university degree program, either undergraduate or graduate, are eligible for the CRDIP. Recent graduates, within one year of the start of the internship, are also eligible. Applicant must be between the ages of 18-25 years old at the start of the internship of June 4, 2012. The general application form is found at: http://www.nps.gov/crdi/internships/intrnCRDIP.htm A resume or curriculum vitae (c.v.), Preferably 1-2 pages that includes: your education information; previous and current experience; publications or presentations; awards, scholarships honors, etc.; and the like. A cover letter that includes a statement, no more than 100 words, of why you want the internship and why you are qualified. A transcript is preferred but is not a requirement. An unofficial one is acceptable. At least one letter of reference from a professor or previous supervisor/employer. Submit your application materials directly to the Student Conservation Association (SCA). Electronic submissions are preferred: jchow@thesca.org. It is highly recommended that you provide all of the above materials. An incomplete application is less competitive.
