The University of Virginia is currently seeking applicants for the position of Director of Development, Historic Preservation.

The Director of Development for Historic Preservation reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Development and works in coordination with the Office of the Architect. This position ensures that the University's historic buildings and Grounds continue to inspire and sustain through fundraising efforts that support restoration and conservation efforts.

The historic preservation area is charged with identifying and cultivating individual donors who have the potential to give major gifts to historic preservation initiatives. This position will have programmatic responsibilities that support the state-of-the-art restoration and conservation of Jeffersonian and post-Jeffersonian structures. The director will identify, cultivate and solicit historic preservation prospects, create, plan and coordinate special events and publications related to historic preservation, and will provide appropriate and tailored stewardship for donors. The director will also manage the Jefferson's Circle annual giving program. The director will communicate and work closely with colleagues, schools/units across Grounds as well as volunteers supporting the historic preservation efforts.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors. Confidentiality, strong personal and professional integrity, teamwork, good judgment and attention to detail are critical. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with colleagues, volunteers and donors. Knowledge of the University of Virginia and historic preservation are preferred. The ability to travel is required, as well as occasional evening and weekend work.
