JOB SUMMARY:

The Ottery Group is seeking a Senior-level Historic Preservation Specialist to direct our historic preservation team. This full-time, permanent position will largely involve project management, staff oversight, and business development, but will also entail fieldwork, archival research, site evaluation and recordation, and the preparation of technical reports.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • At least five years of professional work experience in historic preservation, architectural history, or a related field.
  • A graduate degree in architectural history or historic preservation.
  • Experience in identifying, documenting, and evaluating historic properties for planning and environmental compliance purposes.
  • A thorough knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Experience preparing a variety of reports, including: Historic Structure Reports, Environmental Impact Reports, Conditions Assessments, Preservation Plans, National Register Nominations, Federal Tax Credit Certification documentation, and HABS/HAER reports.
  • Outstanding research, writing, proofreading and editing skills.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct or supervise historic resources surveys and assessments, including site inspections, research, photography, and evaluation.
  • Prepare inventory forms, technical reports and context statements, and Environmental Impact Report/Statement sections relating to historic resources.
  • Lead the coordination of projects with SHPO staff and other government agencies.
  • Serve a lead role in project management, including client interaction and supervision of staff and subconsultants.
  • Work in conjunction with other senior staff, as well as independently, on marketing outreach and development of cultural resources proposals, project budgets, and schedules.
  • OTHER SKILLS:

    The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have a professional demeanor and strong organizational skills, and possess the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should be able to work in a team environment with a variety of project members and manage multiple concurrent tasks. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to work closely with clients, and be able to supervise the work of others.
