Description of Duties: Under close supervision, perform entry level work learning to conduct surveys and research on Federal-aid and State-aid transportation projects to identify and document historic resources which are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, to compare alternates, to assess effects of the proposed transportation projects to those resources, to prepare documentation concerning such resources and effects to them in accordance with various State and Federal environmental laws and regulations, and to complete mitigation of adversely affected resources. Serve as a liaison between the Georgia Department of Transportation and other State and Federal agencies and private parties concerned with historic resources of the state.

Minimum Qualifications: ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a closely related field.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architectural History, Architecture or Historic Architecture or a closely related field in accordance with the Secretary of Interior Standards. Possesses basic knowledge of the identification, evaluation, and management of historic resources. Also possesses familiarity with related legislation such as the National Historic Preservation Act, (knowledge in this area is typically obtained through a bachelor's degree in Architectural History, Architecture or Historic Architecture) competency in comprehending laws, policies, rules and regulations related to historic preservation; in performing basic mathematical computations; in using correct grammar and spelling to communicate facts and messages in a clear and organized manner. Possesses the ability to adapt quickly to change including new policies/procedures; to manage own time effectively; to effectively apply new knowledge and skills in work performed; to accurately recall instructional information; to display a high level of commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct. *Revised 12/11/2009

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated competency in interpreting and applying historic preservation and/or environmental laws such as the National Historic Preservation Act. Possesses familiarity with the Georgia Environmental Policy Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, and Section 4(f) of the US Dot Act. Competency in reading and understanding plans, maps, and aerial photographs. Possesses familiarity with word processing applications. Possesses the ability to develop solutions to moderately complex problems; to accurately recall instructional information; to provide quality service to customers consistently displaying a professional image; to work effectively with co-workers to achieve goals.
