Scientist I - Architectural Historian

Job Description:

Staff Architectural Historian to work under the direction of senior cultural resources staff and in collaboration with other environmental and engineering staff to perform National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance services. Job duties will include historic/archival records research; historic resource inventory and identification surveys, historic buildings documentation and significance assessments, photography, project feasibility planning, alternatives analysis, impact evaluations, and technical report writing to National Parks Service and U.S. Department of Interior standards. Other special historic preservation services may be required from time to time. A willingness to assist with fieldwork and document preparation in other related disciplines will be necessary.

Job Requirements:

A Masters degree in history, historic architecture, historic preservation or closely related field is preferred along with two or more years of professional experience performing cultural resource management and consulting for planning and compliance studies; a bachelors degree in history, cultural geography, historic preservation, or architecture plus 5 years of professional cultural resource management and consulting experience may be considered; strong understanding of public history as it applies to federal (NEPA and NHPA) and state (CEQA) regulatory compliance is required. Periods of travel (1 to 10 days) required. Pre-employment written exam will be conducted on all candidates. References are required.
